I found this ball of crochet thread, most likely from the 1950s, at the flea market in Santa Cruz. The entire book is stitched from one ball of thread, start to finish without interruption. I stitched a drawing of the ball for the front cover, realizing that its simple beauty as an object was what had inspired me to start stitching in the first place.
